It has been a busy period for the CLA East team, with members seeking advice on a wide range of issues affecting their land and businesses.

Jules has been advising members on planning applications, with a particular focus on poultry development and farmyard diversification. Delays within the planning system continue to be a significant concern, with applications taking longer than anticipated.

In some cases, this is creating uncertainty for businesses looking to expand, and Jules has been helping members navigate these challenges and consider how best to progress their proposals.

She has also been spending considerable time advising landlords following the introduction of the Renters’ Rights Act. With significant changes to the private rented sector, members are looking for guidance on how to navigate the new requirements, including rent reviews and the challenges arising from the removal of Section 21 ‘no-fault’ eviction notices.

There is also an ongoing need for landlords to keep up to date with legislation surrounding EPCs and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES).

Peter has been particularly busy advising members on water resources, including reservoir development. Water availability is becoming an increasingly important issue for rural businesses across the East, particularly as businesses look to secure reliable supplies for agriculture and future development.

With pressure on water resources increasing, Peter has been helping members understand their options around water storage and reservoirs, as well as navigating some of the regulatory and planning considerations involved.

He has also been supporting members with diversification projects and advising on the latest Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer.

The variety of enquiries we have been dealing with reflects the many opportunities, but also the challenges, currently facing rural businesses.
