CLA Cymru responds to the Welsh Government statement: Ambitious new law to “transform the rented housing sector in Wales” comes to force, 1 December 2022.

Responding to the Welsh Government statement here, Nigel Hollett, Director of CLA Cymru says “The law must protect responsible private property owners from losing vital rented income, and from additional cost of legal proceedings if tenants abuse contractual terms.”

“The cost of changing contracts and taking-on the changes is causing many private landlords to think again about letting rural properties, leading to a reduction in vital supply of private rented accommodation in rural areas and the sale of rural homes at market price often only affordable by second home owners.”

“Coupled with the Government’s latest proposals on holiday lets, current policy on housing is having a negative impact on the rural economy and doing nothing to solve the housing crisis.”
