Several organisations across the South East have recently been awarded grants totalling £20,000 from the CLA Charitable Trust (CLACT), to help connect young people with nature and the countryside.

The trust is funded almost entirely by subscriptions and donations from members of the CLA, and has recently approved applications from:

  • Basingstoke Mencap Services in Hampshire, awarded £3,572 to help run a horticulture programme for young people with additional needs.
  • Communigrow in Kent, awarded £4,980 to support its eco-education programme, providing outdoor education for youngsters unable to attend mainstream school.
  • Headway Kent, given £4,970 to develop an allotment into a fully accessible, therapeutic growing space for adults with brain injuries.
  • William Robinson Gravetye Charity in Sussex, awarded £3,319 to support environmental learning sessions.
  • Stepney City Farm in London, given £5,000 towards staff costs for its environmental education programme.

Since its foundation in 1980, the trust has given £2m in grants to a wide variety of organisations and projects.
