Levelling-Up and Regeneration Bill - Reforms to National Planning Policy

The CLA has responded to a Government consultation on changes to the National Planning Policy Framework. The Government is consulting on changes in relation to the wider mission of Levelling Up. Among the changes proposed were: changes to Local Authorities housing needs calculations, amendments to how Green Belt is treated, increased protections for the best and most versatile agricultural land, and changes to make renewable energy projects easier to deliver.

The CLA has responded to the consultation using feedback from our Business and Rural Economy and Policy Committees. The consultation is the first stage of changes to the planning system, and we an anticipate a wider review of the National Planning Policy Framework later this year.
