Five organisations across the south west have been awarded grants amounting to nearly £24,000 from the CLA Charitable Trust (CLACT). Grants will help those who are disabled or disadvantaged to visit and participate in learning experiences about the countryside.

The trust is funded almost entirely by subscriptions and donations from members of the CLA, and has recently approved applications from:

  • Avon Needs Trees in Bristol has received £4,990 to support a woodland skills training programme for young people.
  • Heart of NS13 in Bristol has been granted £5,000 to support a volunteer and school education programme at its flower farm.
  • Home-Start Wessex in Dorset has been awarded £5,000 to facilitate a nature playgroup supporting disadvantaged children, their families and carers.
  • Step Together Volunteering in Bristol will receive £4,979 for its allotment project Get Growing which supports young people in the city.
  • Yeovil Rivers Community Trust has received a grant of £5,000 to deliver monthly ecology and wildlife skills sessions to adults with learning difficulties.

This latest round of funding means that 14 charities across the south west have received nearly £60,000 of funding in 2025.

Neroche Woodlanders received a grant in April to deliver Blooming Brambles, a new nature-wellbeing session for adults with mental health needs.

The charity said: “The funding really has made dramatic differences to people’s lives. Several group members have now gone into volunteer roles or into work. Attendance at Blooming Brambles has meant the practice of nature connection to support wellbeing in the local community and with peers and family.”
