Blog by Lucy Charman, CLA South East rural adviser

With harvest now upon us and many members busy working around the unpredictable weather, I have taken the opportunity to participate in more rural meetings.

This week we were invited to attend a rural business breakfast hosted by Mims Davies, MP for Mid Sussex, at the Bluebell Vineyard which was well attended by business owners and landowners from the region.

Insightful talks were given by Dan Burdett of Cockhaise Farm organic dairy, Jo Morris from JoJo's at Cuckfield, Police Sergeant Jon Attfield of the Sussex Police rural crime team and Wendy Agate from St Peter & St James Hospice.

While in Sussex I have also visited a number of members, discussing issues including ELM, access, planning, diversification, grant funding and natural capital.

Also on my travels I have enjoyed some of the amazing landscapes we have across the region, stopping at the top of the South Downs and the edge of the river Rother, as well as viewing the Rampion wind farm from the coast at Shoreham. This seemed particularly pertinent with the current talks surrounding Rampion 2.

If any members are interested in face-to-face visits, please get in contact with the South East adviser team on 01264 313434.
