The South Downs National Park Authority has launched a consultation on its draft Partnership Management Plan – the most important document for any park which lays out key priorities and targets.

The CLA has now submitted its response, which can be found here, and is encouraging members to have their say before the 1 August deadline.

More on the consultation can be found here.

The CLA view

The South Downs National Park management plan is written in a positive, inclusive style without creation of new barriers.

It is refreshing to see recognition of the ongoing uncertainty and challenges that agricultural and land-based businesses are facing and to see the commitment of support from the SDNP Authority to advise and support these businesses, with multiple references to the importance of a thriving rural economy.

There will of course be future development that is necessary for the purposes of agricultural enterprises which is designed to be functional and future proof, rather than landscape-led, and recognition of support for this kind of necessary development is not held within this plan and should be.

The CLA will continue to champion our members' interests and looks forward to continue working cohesively with the South Downs National Park Authority in order to achieve common targets, and contribute to a profitable vibrant and resilient landscape.
