Member feedback sought for Electricity Code of Practice

Members whose land has been used for the development of electricity infrastructure are being asked to share their experiences of the Electricity Code of Practice.

Launched last year by the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV), Energy Networks Association (ENA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Electricity Code of Practice details and encourages behaviour that will better protect landowners whose land and property is involved in electricity infrastructure projects.

With major projects underway, and more to come, such require taking rights over farms and other land, impacting owners, tenants, users and their businesses, all of whose interests need to be properly recognised. The Code of Practice has been developed by an expert working group which has included electricity licence holders, those who advise landowners and their membership organisations. The Code of Practice can be found here.

It is widely recognised that good relationship between licence holders and landowners needs to be developed and maintained. Historically, a number of members have suffered from being unfairly treated in relation to electricity infrastructure.

With the first version of the Code of Practice being trialled for 12 months, an expert working group, which includes the CLA, will reconvene to consider whether any amendments or stronger powers are needed.

Therefore, we are urging members who have had any recent experience to share their views. If you have used the Code of Practice or have been poorly treated, it would be appreciated if you could submit feedback so that we can demonstrate to Government that stronger protection is required.

The survey can be found here.
