What the CLA Natural Capital Directory is about

The CLA are creating the UK''s first National Capital Directory. This will be unique and nothing else like it currently exists. It will be published on our website and will allow companies to promote their brand and the natural capital related services they can provide to CLA members. The CLA has 28,000 members and natural capital has rapidly become one of the most popular issues that our members seek advice on, so being part of the Directory will be a great opportunity to attract new business.

Business Types:

Broker
An intermediary within the market who links buyers and sellers of ecosystem services. Intermediaries can help match funding to such projects based on the needs of buyer and seller. This category includes aggregators, who bring together multiple buyers or sellers, to create larger projects. It also includes and habitat banks and other services for matching those with land available and those looking to buy environmental credits from the land.
Buyers and investors
Buyers are those who pay directly for positive environmental management due to the benefits this produces, this could be public or private sector organisations. Investors will invest in natural capital project to achieve a return, either purely financial or with additional social or environmental benefits.
Natural Capital Adviser
There are as many types of adviser as there are approaches to natural capital management. Advice ranges from ecological and environmental experts, to legal, tax and business advisers who can help with contractual negotiations or business planning.
Natural Capital Measurer
Offering natural capital assessments, accounts or audits for businesses. This could use one of a range of tools or metrics to measure the environmental value of land and the environmental services currently being delivered. A natural capital assessment can also give an indication of the potential for the land to provide more environmental benefits, which can aid land management decisions.
Seller
The person delivering environmental benefits from land. This could be the landowner, tenant or someone acting on their behalf. This category includes those who deliver natural capital projects on the land as part of a contract.
