Meeting in Cumbria with MP Tim Farron
In February, the CLA North team and CLA members from the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency met with MP Tim Farron to discuss rural mattersEarlier this month, CLA North's Henk Geertsema and Ellie Riley, along with CLA members Peter Knox, Douglas Chalmers, Sam Beaumont and Claire Beaumont (and Claire's parents Anne and Richard Lloyd) of Gowbarrow Hall Farm met with MP TimFarron to discuss a variety of topics of importance to farmers, landowners and rural businesses.
Topics discussed included: encouraging a new generation of farmers; rural/farming education and incorporating food and farming in our school curriculum; the a push-pull between calorific density vs nutrient density; intensive vs regenerative (pasture fed) livestock farming; food labelling; food as a public good; the balance between the environment and farming; and much more.
Tim also discussed the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson’s Paper on Food Security which was published in December last year. Following the meeting, the CLA team provided Tim an explanatory paper on share-farming.
