Great Yorkshire Show 2025 - activities programme

We are looking forward to seeing our members at this year's Great Yorkshire Show from 8 to 11 July

The CLA North team will be out in full force at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show from 8 to 11 July at Stand no.194. In addition, our special guests at this year’s show will be CLA Deputy President Gavin Lane, CLA Director of Policy and Advice, Judicaelle Hammond, CLA External Affairs Director, Jonathan Roberts and CLA Chief Tax Adviser Louise Speke.

As per previous shows, a two course lunch for members and guests is available for purchase between 11.30am and 2.15pm every day. (£25 incl. VAT)

Note: Attending any of the CLA activities does not imply free access to the Show Grounds and members should purchase their show tickets well in advance. CLA members who are farmers can purchase discounted farmer tickets via www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk/farmers/

Tuesday 8 July

8am - 9.30am CLA Growth of the Rural Economy Breakfast - registration required

The CLA’s Deputy President Gavin Lane will host Mayor of York and North Yorkshire David Skaith who will launch his 'Review of the state of farming finance and challenges faced'. The panel will discuss the findings and the wider challenges facing our sector, including a Q & A session with the attendees.

10am to 11.30am - 'Ask the Advisers' session - registration required

Judicaelle Hammond, CLA Director of Policy and Advice will introduce the powerhouse of CLA advisory services with an overview of the latest policy developments impacting rural land use. Joseph Mitchell, Partner at Harrison Drury Solicitors, who generously sponsors this session, will field questions on legal issues such as business ownership structures, types of ownership and diversification.

Each adviser, in the CLA North team, will then host a round round table and attendees can choose between the various experts present and have time to engage with two topics of their choice. Advisers will be on hand throughout the show to take additional queries.

3pm to 4pm - Question Time Panel: Rural Revival - What Next? Registration required

This panel will give their take on recent developments in the rural and farming sector and also consider what the future may hold. As owners of 70% of England's land we are key stakeholders in the land use debate and hold many solutions for society's challenges and the rural economy.

The session, which is generously supported by Saffery and YoungsRPS, will be introduced and facilitated by CLA Deputy President Gavin Lane.

The CLA will host a reception, generously sponsored by CLA Healthcare, to showcase the important work of RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) in supporting farmers up and down the country. Refreshments available.

Wednesday 9 July

8am to 9.30am – CLA Risky Business Breakfast - registration required

This Breakfast Seminar, hosted by CLA Deputy President Gavin Lane and generously sponsored by GSC Grays and Hagen Wolf, will explore perspectives from an insurance, legal and land agent position on an evolving hypothetical scenario covering change in farming type and diversification.

2.30pm to 3.30pm Livestock and their Future in Farming - registration required

This panel, kindly supported by Armstrong Watson, will discuss the future of livestock in British farming, considering pressures of emerging disease trends, public perceptions and the bigger picture positives of integrating livestock in regenerative models.

The session will be chaired by Andrew Loftus, Yorkshire livestock farmer and Chair of the Beef and Lamb Environment Roadmap. Expert speakers include:

CLA Deputy President Gavin Lane (also a Nuffield Scholar) will welcome guests at this reception, kindly sponsored by Knight Frank.

Former scholars, future applicants and supporters are invited to attend this reception which will highlight scholars’ experiences whilst giving advice on aspiring applicants.

Thursday & Friday, 10 to 11 July

On Thursday and Friday we expect to welcome Members of Parliament, rural stakeholders and partners, along with dignitaries to the CLA stand at various points during both day to discuss the CLA’s work in relation to political ‘asks’ as set out in our Rural Powerhouse campaign.
