County Durham LNRS consultation
The County Durham Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) is now open to public consultation until 11 January, with an intention to publish it in spring 2026.The strategy sets out plans for how and where to help nature recover across County Durham. It focuses on the areas where action is most needed, where it will make the biggest difference, and deliver the best results for the environment.
The strategy aims to enhance the environment by increasing biodiversity, as well as delivering wider benefits such as reducing flood risks and improving air quality—benefits that support everyone’s health and well-being.
The consultation includes a survey concentrating on the priorities and measures and a digital map for you to explore and comment on. You are encouraged to share your thoughts, especially if you are involved in farming or land management, so that the strategy reflects your views and experience.
Members can participate in the consultation via this link before 11 January 2026.
As part of the consultation, if you wish to discuss the draft strategy and mapping with a member of the LNRS team at Durham County Council please contact ecology@durham.gov.uk to arrange a 1-1 discussion.
County Durham’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy is scheduled to be published in spring 2026.
