CLA North meets with Cumbria Constabulary on rural crime

CLA Director North, Lucinda Douglas, along with CLA North’s Rural Adviser, Jane Harrison met with Sergeant Amanda McKirdy from Cumbria Constabulary to discuss rural crime across Cumbria.

Sergeant McKirdy is currently undertaking a scoping exercise looking at how other existing Rural Crime Units operate across the country, particularly in the North. Some forces use WhatsApp groups to report and notify of incidents, and are working to address some of the administrative and cross force border issues that need resolving.

The use of drones to track down thieves has proved useful. New recruits will receive wildlife crime training.

As ever, she re-iterated that all incidents should be reported to the Police as this information is used for prioritising their future actions, investment and resource.
