CLA Director North Lucinda Douglas, along with a small group of members, met with Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale in Kendal to discuss issues of importance to farmers and landowning constituents.

Key issues centred on the slow (and costly) processing speed of planning applications being mired in red tape and the rate of abortive fees; future farming support with reduction in BPS and the challenge of applying; carbon emission measurement; methane in relation to dairy farmers; connectivity; migration and the local tourism sector.

Tim highlighted the Liberal Democrats championing an increase of £1bn to the Defra budget, in part to facilitate more effective delivery of farming support; whilst also expressing concerns about the current international trade deals.
