Succession Planning Roadshows support family businesses across the region
A round up of the Midlands Succession Planning Roadshows
At the end of January, the CLA Midlands team hosted a series of successful Succession Planning Roadshows across venues in Shropshire, Warwickshire and Cheshire. The events drew strong attendance from both members and non-members, with delegates keen to understand how best to protect the future of their family businesses.
The sessions were designed to help rural enterprises plan ahead with confidence, maintain family harmony and make informed, long term decisions. Attendees heard from a panel of trusted experts covering a wide range of topics essential for effective succession planning. These included how to approach and facilitate sensitive family conversations, current tax considerations, and the legal structures and protections that support long term business continuity.
Speakers also provided clarity on the recent changes to Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR), outlining what these updates mean for businesses and why planning remains critical despite the policy shifts announced late last year.
The CLA continues to campaign for the proposed inheritance tax changes to be fully scrapped, but in the meantime, the message to attendees was clear: understanding your position now and planning early is essential. Delegates were reminded that the CLA tax team offers free succession planning advice to members, alongside a suite of online resources to support their next steps.
It was fantastic to meet so many members and other attendees across the region at these events. Succession planning is one of the most important conversations a family business can have but it can also be one of the most challenging. These events show just how valuable it is for people to come together, ask questions and start putting a clear plan in place for the future.
