Stepping back in time to the Industrial Revolution

Members had the opportunity to step back in time at our first AGM of the year
Shropshire AGM

The CLA Midlands team kicked off their AGM and events season last Tuesday with their Shropshire AGM and visit to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, generously sponsored by Savills.

Blessed with beautiful weather, the day started with an address to members by Vice President, Joe Evans who talked about challenges and opportunities members are facing in the county, and what the CLA are doing behind the scenes.

Attendees then enjoyed a walking tour of the old furnace, learning all about the history of the area before heading back to enjoy a delicious lunch and networking.

What a beautiful day to enjoy visiting this interesting venue! This is a piece of history which is right on our doorstep and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to bring our members here. It was wonderful to be able to talk to members throughout the day and hear about what is going on in their rural communities. There was plenty of discussion about the opening of the Farming Recovery Fund, which at this point doesn’t cover Shropshire and the CLA are waiting for further information on this.

The afternoon was spent hearing about the work that the Trust is doing to preserve the history of the estate and their plans for the future.

We had a wonderful day exploring the history of the industrial revolution at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust. The event was well supported and it was good to hear from CLA Vice President, Joe Evans about the wide variety of current topics that are being worked on by the organisation.
