Rural priorities discussed with Rachel Taylor
CLA members meet Rachel Taylor, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth
CLA members in North Warwickshire recently had the opportunity to join a round table meeting with their local MP, Rachel Taylor.
Hosted by the Packington Estate, the meeting covered a diverse range of topics, including planning challenges and rural crime. Fly-tipping, which is particularly prevalent in the constituency, was a key concern.
Other issues discussed included the much-debated inheritance tax changes and the sudden closure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI).
Ms Taylor commented “I enjoyed my visit to the Packington Estate, despite the weather! It was inspiring to hear the ethos guiding the work at Packington - Stewardship, Sustainability, Connectivity and Wellness.
“I believe that access to nature and open spaces is so important to our health so it was great to see what James, Ben and the team are doing to welcome the public to enjoy the great outdoors and the work going on to protect nature, farm responsibly, develop eco-tourism and deliver much needed new homes.
“I was able to listen to concerns from them and other local CLA members about fly tipping, uncertainty around agricultural subsidies and challenges with the planning system which I hope will be alleviated through the groundbreaking Planning and Infrastructure Bill.
“Lots of food for thought and issues I will be discussing with the DEFRA team in Government. I’m looking forward to trying out the Adventure Golf next time I visit.”
The Midlands team are continuing to meet with MPs across the region to ensure that rural voices are being heard.
