CLA Cheshire Branch Committee members meet with Conservative MP for Chester South and Eddisbury, Aphra Brandreth
Aphra Brandreth meeting

Recently, members of our Cheshire Branch Committee met with Conservative MP for Chester South and Eddisbury. This is the second meeting the CLA Midlands have hosted with Ms Brandreth, with one being held pre-election when she was a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC).

We discussed the challenges around the latest announcements with regard to the closure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Inheritance tax changes. Members also gave an overview of how CLA members support the rural economy with their businesses, with conversation taking place around planning, rural business diversification and Energy Performance Certificates.

It was a pleasure to meet the Cheshire branch Committee and get an update about their efforts to support our countryside and rural community. The Government have brought forward policy that puts our countryside and environment at risk. The livelihoods of those who provide stewardship are being threatened through the Family Farm Tax and the closure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive Scheme, with no advanced warning. I am committed to continuing to do all I can in Parliament to support our rural community and to speak up on its behalf. It is great to have organisations such as the CLA advocating alongside colleagues and I, as we lobby the Government to change its course.
