In March, the Trustees of the Country Land and Business Association Charitable Trust (CLACT) met and agreed 19 grants totalling over £80,000 to be awarded to charities that aim to connect disabled or disadvantaged individuals with the countryside.

The NeuroMuscular Centre which is based in Cheshire provides a range of specialist services to support service users and their families living with neuromuscular conditions.

The donation will be used to improve their accessible community garden project by delivering tutor led sessions, materials such as peat free soil, fruit and vegetable plants and seeds, care support and adapted equipment.

We are thrilled to have been awarded a grant from the CLA Charitable Trust. The accessible Community Garden and Growing project will enable individuals with physical restrictions to be outside in nature which has benefits to their physical and mental health. The community garden is fully accessible with raised planters and allotment style growing spaces.

The hope is that this project will enable those with physical restrictions to be able to access the outdoors, learn new skills with regards to food production and healthy eating, and bring people together which will in turn improve mental health.

The CLA Charitable Trust operates as an independent grant-making organisation, sustained almost entirely through the generous contributions of its members. The aims of the Trust are to expand knowledge of, and access to, the countryside—particularly for those who are disadvantaged.

In pursuit of this mission, the Trust provides educational bursaries within the rural sector and supports a wide range of charities, community projects, and not-for-profit organisations. These initiatives reflect a long-standing commitment to creating opportunities, fostering inclusion, and nurturing a deeper understanding of rural life and landscapes.
