Sad news from CLA East
CLA remembers Tim Woodward following his recent passing from a long-term illness
We are deeply saddened to inform our members of the passing of CLA East Rural Surveyor Tim Woodward following a long-term illness.
Tim supported members with their enquires for more than a decade, becoming a trusted adviser on all matters of land management. He regularly represented members’ interests at meetings across the region and developed long term relationships with a range of stakeholders, with whom he was well respected.
Tim trained at the Royal Agricultural College (RAC) and was a rural surveyor for over 35 years, specialising in estate management and advising institutional, charitable and private landowners across southern and eastern England. For six months before joining the CLA East team, he was Interim Chief Surveyor for the CLA at Belgrave Square in London.
Responding to the news, CLA East Director Cath Crowther said: “Tim’s passing is extremely sad for all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by the CLA.
“He was a treasured and highly respected member of the team. His knowledge of rural matters was second to none and he was passionate about the countryside. Outside of work he could often be found walking his Border Terrier Wilf, regularly attending French language classes, and in his words, ‘making a lot of noise and smoke’ with his collection of Victorian black powder firearms.
“Tim was also Chair of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and had been a member of their Board for the last five years. Here, he engaged his passions of land management and conservation and supported the work of the Trust with the wider landowning and land managing community.”
Cath added: “We have nothing but admiration for the way Tim dealt with his illness and treatment for many years. He remained positive and jovial in the face of great adversity.
“Our thoughts are with Tim’s family, friends and colleagues who have lost a rural champion.”
Tim retired from CLA duty in June this year.
