Updates from rural crime teams in Cambridgeshire and Essex
Cambridgeshire’s Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) says it has recovered almost £700,000 worth of stolen property, made 26 arrests and helped disrupt organised criminality across Cambridgeshire in a six-month period.
Figures show that between April and September this year, the RCAT recovered 48 stolen vehicles, trailers, items of plant machinery and other assets with a combined value of more than £699,000.
Meanwhile, Inspector Terry Jacobs, of the Essex Police Rural Engagement Team, says the number of diesel thefts has started to increase across the county and is likely to be linked to the current price of the fuel.
“While thefts can occur at any time, we are seeing a higher number between midnight and 4am,” says Terry.
Essex Police is urging farms to be vigilant and ensure security measures are in place where fuel is stored.
