Reservoir consultations

CLA East Adviser Andrew Marriott provides an update on Anglian Water proposals for two new reservoirs

Anglian Water is developing plans for two new reservoirs, one in south Lincolnshire and another in the Fens, which is being developed in partnership with Cambridge Water. Under plans recently announced by Anglian Water, the south Lincolnshire reservoir will extend to five square-kilometre-squared on land in the Scredington, Helpringham, Swaton area; an initial concept plan for the reservoir is available here.

The site selection process for an additional reservoir of similar scale on the Cambridgeshire / Norfolk border in the Fens has also concluded, and those impacted by the plans are being notified this week. One-to-one meetings with Fisher German, the dedicated agent for both projects, will also be offered.

Whilst the CLA recognises the need for resilient water supplies and understands the new reservoirs will help deliver water security for the longer term, it is our firm belief that affected landowners should be consulted with throughout the process, fully informed of all proposals, and fairly compensated as a result of these developments.

A public consultation will be launched in October and we encourage affected CLA members to contact the CLA East regional office to share their views on the proposals and seek the help of our advisory services, where required. We are also engaged with Anglian Water and will continue to express the urgent need for transparency at all stages of the development and detailed information to be available to all affected landowners.
