Norwich to Tilbury proposals
An update from CLA Adviser Bee Barton-Broomhead on recent meetings
The CLA continues to engage proactively with both National Grid and Fisher German regarding the Norwich to Tilbury project, a proposal to build a new high voltage network reinforcement between Norwich, Bramford and Tilbury.
We are working closely with them as developer and agent to ensure members’ concerns are properly represented throughout the process.
We have held productive meetings with both organisations and are pushing to ensure that access notices are issued in a timely manner, and that landowners are fully engaged with, listened to, and treated fairly.
We are also acutely aware of the significant biosecurity risks associated with major infrastructure projects, particularly for pig and poultry enterprises. As a result, we are calling for a publicly available biosecurity statement for the project, alongside formal biosecurity agreements tailored to each individual affected farm.
The scale of this project continues to generate a substantial number of enquiries through the CLA East office, and we are working hard to ensure our members’ voices are heard at the highest levels within National Grid.
We would encourage any members with concerns, enquiries, or relevant case studies relating to Norwich to Tilbury to get in touch, so that we can continue raising awareness with National Grid and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero around the impacts on rural businesses and the cumulative pressures caused by multiple infrastructure projects across the East.
