CLA goes on the road with Essex Police
CLA East Adviser met with officers to discuss rural crime and heard first-hand about issues faced by land managers
The CLA recently spent the day with the Essex Police Rural Engagement Team to hear how officers are tackling crime in the countryside and to discuss some of the key challenges our members face.
CLA Rural Adviser Peter Ewin travelled to rural locations across the day and topics including hare coursing, the theft of farm machinery and fly-tipping were among those frequently raised.
Reflecting on the day, Peter said: “It is extremely important that we maintain relationships with all the police forces in our region as there are often times when our members have been victims of criminality.
“Through our contacts we can then escalate incidents when necessary to our ensure our members’ experiences receive a suitable response.
“Going out and about with officers has provided an opportunity to understand the challenges that rural police officers face and build relationships that means we can clear lines of communication in the future.”
