The CLA recently held a member seminar that looked at potential income opportunities generated through natural capital trading.

The joint event run by CLA East and the Environmental Farmers Group (EFG) explored how to deliver positive environmental change at a landscape-scale.

Hosted by Courteenhall Managing Partner Johnny Wake, the first session covered how EFG strategise financing environmental delivery. EFG is a cooperative of farmers delivering positive environmental change, supported by some of the UK’s leading natural capital specialists.

The group acts as a trusted navigator for farmers and landowners by providing a cohesive approach to baselining, planning and monitoring natural capital.

This was followed by a session from CLA Chief Land Use Policy Adviser Susan Twining who provided a policy update and discussed how the CLA can support members who are seeking advice on the opportunities within this sector.

Gary Markham from Land Family Business offered guidance on financial aspects of natural capital and Anglian Water concluded the morning with a short update on local water quality and supply.

Guests at the seminar then enjoyed a comprehensive farm walk at Courteenhall where numerous activities at the farm were covered along with a visit to some of the estate’s diversified businesses.
