Sustainable Farming Incentive Offer 2022

In late June 2021, Defra published further information about the Agricultural Transition, including details of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer and the Animal Health and Welfare Reviews that will be available to all farmers in 2022, and details on how they will set payments rates for all current and future schemes.

The full information is available on the government website here.

The key points are as follows:

  • Introduction of three SFI standards in 2022 available to all Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) claimants.
  • Annual Animal Health and Welfare Review visit by a vet or vet-led team from 2022-2024 for farmers with cattle, sheep and pigs.
  • A new approach to payments, including a review of payment rates for Countryside Stewardship, which will apply to those in existing agreements.

This briefing gives an overview of the new information from the government and some CLA analysis on what it means for members.
