The CLA Women's Network was set up in 2020 by CLA Director General Sarah Hendry to encourage more women to be active in the CLA and create networking, mentoring and social opportunities for members.

Sarah says: “At a lot of our committee meetings - both regional and national - there are, for a whole range of reasons far fewer women than men, and yet once you start going around and visiting member farms and businesses, you realise that there are many women active in those businesses,”

“These women have a huge amount of talent and understanding of what CLA businesses need, but we were not tapping into that as we should be. It was clear to me that the organisation was missing out on that valuable information and insight. Also, a lot of those women were missing out on the opportunities that being more actively involved in the CLA offers. The CLA Women's Network aims to address these issues."

Objectives

  • To help the CLA identify and get to know our women members much better, and raise the profile of and enable a greater voice for women members
  • To encourage more women to be actively involved in the CLA, identify opportunities for this and tackle any barriers
  • To build up the pipeline of women who are interested in taking up committee, chair and officer roles
  • To create opportunities for networking, mentoring and professional development among women members.
