After a tense run-off, Sam, handled by Wendy Glue from West Sussex, has beaten leading gundogs from across the UK to win the coveted title of CLA Gundog of the Year, receiving the Sir John Ruggles-Brise Trophy and the use of a Mitsubishi Outlander for a year.
The contest took place over the three days of the CLA Game Fair, from Friday, 19 July to Sunday, 21 July, in a new arena in the grounds of Ragley Hall in Warwickshire.
Commenting on her win, Wendy said: "I'm honoured to win this title, and am delighted that Sam has proved himself. It was always going to be a challenge and we were certainly up against the very best dogs. On this occasion I am pleased to say everything came together and we came out on top.
CLA Game Fair Gundog Adviser Barbara Kuen said: "This was a demanding competition over three days and revealed some extraordinary talent. Wendy and Sam were worthy winners.
Angela Osman, Mitsubishi Motors Events and Sponsorship Manager, said: "We're delighted to support this great competition and help develop rural sports with the Mitsubishi Outlander, which we trust will provide happy motoring for Wendy and Sam."
CLA Game Fair Director Andrew Crawford said: "This has proven a fitting competition – the UK's best gundog at the UK's largest countryside show. We have seen some incredible partnerships over the three days, and I'm delighted that this top talent decided to take part in what will undoubtedly become a firm fixture in the gundog world."
