The CLA responded to Defra's consultation on expanding the area subject to licencing for burning vegetation from a subset of protected sites with peat deeper than 40 cm, to all peat deeper than 30 cm in the uplands (Less Favoured Area). Other Defra proposals consulted on include mandatory training, mandatory adherence to the Heather & Grass Burning Code, and changing the grounds for awarding a licence.
