CLA Wales has received feedback of excess holiday accommodation in some regions where members are being:
- Struck by Empty Property Business Rates
- Refused permission to lift planning conditions and let holiday cottages as domestic housing
Clearly excess holiday accommodation will only represent a tiny proportion of monies collected under Empty Property Business Rates, but CLA Wales wishes to follow this through by writing to Tourist Boards nationally to ascertain where an oversupply of holiday accommodation has been identified. Against the backdrop of a national housing undersupply crisis, planning authorities should be enabling new domestic lets where they can. The CLA will also respond to the Matthew Taylor Review on planning guidance stating that Local Authorities should liaise with Tourist Boards when assessing housing supply and needs in their area. The proposal has already been put forward to Welsh Government.
