Rural Business Conference 2017

Redefining Farming

28 November 2017 - Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Westminster

More than 450 CLA members descended on London to attend our second Rural Business Conference, this year held under the theme of ‘Redefining Farming’.

A roll call of outstanding speakers addressed the conference in Westminster, among them Defra Secretary Michael Gove, Eden Project founder Sir Tim Smit and Dmitry Skornyakov, the chief executive of an agribusiness farming 250,000 acres in Ukraine.

As well as examining opportunities and challenges on the horizon as Brexit draws ever nearer, it was a chance to hear from other CLA members about how they have invested in their farming operations and collaborated with partners to strengthen and grow their businesses. MPs also attended the conference, speaking to CLA members and hearing about the issues affecting their businesses.

Redefining Farming Report

The CLA unveiled its Redefining Farming report at the Rural Business Conference 2017 to over 500 delegates on Wednesday 28 November.

Informed by new research, the report explores how landowning farm businesses are adapting for the future.

Headline findings include information on preparations farmers are making for Brexit, the barriers that need to be overcome to allow greater investment in skills and training and an overview of how collaboration can unlock opportunities.
