Meet the External Affairs team

The CLA’s External Affairs team is based in its London Office a short walk from Westminster. The team includes members with a wide range of experiences from experienced lobbyists, communications professionals and digital specialists to ensure that the team are a force in Westminster representing landowners’ interests to those making the key decisions. While not part of the External Affairs team Nigel Hollett is undoubtedly our chief lobbyist in Wales ensuring that CLA Cymru messages are heard by Welsh government, Assembly Members and officials in Cardiff. He leads a dedicated team who ensure that Welsh landowners are at the heart of rural policy in Wales.


Jonathan Roberts
Director of External Affairs

Jonathan joined the CLA in July 2019 having previously been Communications Director at the UK Chamber of Shipping. Previously, he worked as a researcher to an MEP and as Parliamentary Manager to Huw Irranca-Davis when he was minister for the environment and for Wales. Jonathan heads up the CLA's work on public affairs, communications and print and digital media. He comes from a family of farmers and chartered surveyors in North Yorkshire and North Wales.

Jasmin McDermott
Managing Editor – Print & Digital

Jasmin is responsible for editing the CLA’s monthly member magazine Land & Business and overseeing the CLA’s website, social media, and weekly news emails. Jasmin’s extensive journalistic experience includes working as a reporter for local and regional newspapers, working on a specialist online news website reporting on the UK police service as deputy editor, before becoming the editor for an ultra-niche B2B magazine in the oil & gas sector, with responsibility for print, digital and social media.

Ellie Wood

Eleanor Wood
Public Affairs Manager

Eleanor joined the CLA in 2017 following stints working in Parliament and for a public affairs consultancy. In 2019 Eleanor became the Public Affairs Manager responsible for leading on the CLA’s lobbying work in Westminster. She is responsible for maintaining relationships with the CLA’s key contacts in Parliament and delivering the organisation’s programme of political events. She also provides the secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Rural Business.

Rosie Nagle

Rosie Nagle
Public Affairs Adviser

Rosie joined the CLA in 2019 after previously working as a Parliamentary Researcher for James Heappey MP. She is now responsible for organising campaign briefings for MPs, meeting with key CLA key contacts in Parliament and delivering the organisation’s programme of political events alongside Eleanor Wood.

Rosie Nagle

Joel Holt
National Communications Manager

Joel joined the CLA in early 2020 as the National Communications Manager, leading on press and communications strategies for the organisation. Joel joins from the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust where he spent several years as Communications Officer. Prior to that, Joel was Sports Editor for the Salisbury Journal and worked as a sports reporter for the BBC. He grew up in the countryside and feels passionately about rural issues.
