CLA statement on the National Flood Resilience Review published today (9 September)
CLA President Ross Murray said: “Increased flooding over recent years has caused misery for home and business owners across rural England. We have long argued that the current approach to water management is not working. It is disappointing that this Review so clearly prioritises urban areas. We will continue to press for a coherent strategy for managing flooding in rural areas.
"This is important not least because in many cases, it is rural communities which hold the keys to slow the flow and have the expertise to deliver practical water management.
“The CLA is committed to working with the Government to help introduce new and innovative ways to mitigate flood risk. Rural landowners want to be a part of the solution and the Government must not lose sight of the opportunity to work with them to manage the land for flood prevention.”
