Rural Development Programme for England: 2007-2013 Uplands Reward Structure

The options presented in the consultation are successor arrangements to the current Hill Farm Allowance (HFA) as part of the new England Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.  The justification for the continuation of a dedicated LFA (Less Favoured Area) support scheme is that it is simply imperative that grazing is maintained in the hills and the demise in LFA support would undermine this.  Hill farming in the LFA both manages and is an integral part of what are some of the most distinct and popular landscapes that defines the image of 'England'.
