The CLA, working together with other bodies, has made strong representations to the Government against VAT on alterations to listed buildings. Our campaign has secured a three-and-half-year extension to the transition period.
Although the zero-rating is still being withdrawn, the Government has announced that the transitional provisions are being improved. As long as the Listed Building Consent was applied for, but not necessarily granted, before Budget Day on 21 March this year, the zero-rating will remain available until 30 September 2015.
This was confirmed in the House of Commons during the passage of the Finance Bill when one of the ministers we lobbied, HM Treasury Minister David Gauke MP conceded the benefit for those new CLA members and others now qualifying.
