The CLA has welcomed the Government's decision to postpone new record-keeping requirements for farmers with environmental stewardship agreements.
The announcement postpones until further notice the introduction of new livestock record keeping requirements, which had been set to come into force from 1 June 2015 for pre-2013 environmental stewardship agreement holders. The CLA had been pressing for a postponement of the new requirements and further clarity on the agreement options to which the new requirements relate.
CLA President Henry Robinson said: “The lack of clarity around the introduction of highly burdensome livestock reporting requirements has been a concern for CLA members, and we are pleased that Government has listened to us and to others in the industry who voiced similar concerns.
“It is important that Defra and Natural England now consult properly with industry on the introduction of any additional record keeping requirements, to ensure that farmers are not dissuaded from environmental stewardship work by unnecessary or needlessly complex additional burdens.”
