The CLA has commented on the Government’s announcement that it will create a new Cumbrian Floods Partnership as part of work to identify additional flood protection measures for Cumbrian communities.
The CLA represents landowners, farmers and rural businesses in England and Wales.
CLA President Ross Murray said: “We welcome the creation of the new Cumbrian Floods Partnership. It is right that Government is looking at upstream solutions to flood management including adaptation of established land uses. We need to find new ways to avoid the ordeals that urban and rural communities have suffered in recent years, but we also need to ensure the sustainability of traditional farming communities. This is why the CLA has been so supportive of initiatives such as the Pontbren initiative in Wales, which is a farmer-led approach to sustainable upland management. We look forward to working with Government and CLA Members as part of this new initiative.”
