ALTMOUTH PUMPING STATION TRIAL UPDATE - LANCASHIRE

The Environment Agency (Cumbria and Lancashire) has written to landowners and farmers in the area to update them on the trial of increasing water levels at Altmouth Pumping Station to try and reinstate gravity flow.

Due to the very wet Autumn, and with access to land compromised, the Environment Agency (EA) has decided to postpone this trial until next year. This work is vital in determining the most effective and affordable operational and maintenance regime for the pumping station.

During the trial period water levels will be temporarily raised upstream until the EA can see effective gravity flow.  Affected members are asked to inform the EA on their cycle of preparation, planting and harvesting, as well as when members think it would be the best time to carry out the intended trial.

Members can submit their information and thoughts on the trail to Robert Ide (EA) by telephoning  0203 0251 409 or emailing robert.ide@environment-agency.gov.uk

Members with concerns regarding the trial or any water management issue, can contact CLA North Rural Surveyor Robert Frewen by telephoning 01748 90 7070.
