The CLA, which represents farmers, landowners and rural businesses is to showcase its advisory service at this year’s British Pig & Poultry Fair on 15/16 May at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
CLA members own or manage over 10 Million acres of rural England and Wales and, with many actively involved in pig or poultry farming, the association’s in-house advisers have proven themselves to be a tremendous resource when businesses develop or diversify.
Visitors to the event are invited to call into the CLA Stand 412 to find out about the range of benefits, and the unlimited independent advice that members can access including planning, environmental, legal taxation, funding and dealing with Brexit.
CLA Territory Manager David Clegg has a background in agriculture, especially in the poultry sector and is well placed to understand the issues and challenges facing the industry.
He said: ”With current exchange rates in the industry’s favour, and consumer tastes driving sales of beef and lamb alternatives, it is sector of agriculture that appears to be optimistic about the future, but rightly wary about potential changes in legislation and regulation.
“However, to succeed businesses need expert, impartial advice before committing costly and time-consuming resources. CLA members are already ahead of the game, being able to access the most accurate and up to date advice, whether expanding or beginning new poultry or pig enterprises.
On the thorny issue of Brexit, Mr Clegg adds: “We’re very active in lobbying to ensure a trade deal that works in favour of the agricultural industry. The CLA also meets regularly with Defra officials and minsters to ensure that any impact on agriculture and the pig and poultry sectors are considered when post EU-exit deals are being negotiated.”
