Alex Carson-Taylor has been elected chairman of the Shropshire branch of the CLA, which represents landowners, farmers and rural businesses.
Alex operates his own international trade and development company specialising in the agri-food sector with a number of interests in the UK and Overseas. His work includes trade facilitation, joint ventures, investment pathfinding and policy development.
Speaking about his appointment, Alex identifies a number of key priorities for Shropshire.
‘Shropshire’s rural economy faces a number of challenges and the CLA is in a strong position to lobby and drive the agenda forwards at both national and local level. A comprehensive trade deal with the EU will continue to allow producers and processors in the County equitable access to European markets whilst the development of a new food, farming and environment programme will be crucial in replacing the current CAP schemes. Addressing ongoing issues with planning systems, rural housing and ensuring the rollout of high-speed broad band to rural areas will also be of upmost importance in helping ensure a sustainable rural economy.’
Alex is also a member of the national CLA Agriculture & Land Use Committee and was recently a member of the CLA delegation to the European Parliament to discuss the importance of a successful future trading relationship between the UK and EU. He is also chair of the Shropshire Great Outdoors Strategy Board.
