Charles has been a Chartered Surveyor with the CLA since 2011.

Prior to working at the CLA, Charles was employed in Private Practice managing farm and estates as an Assistant Land Agent from 1987 to 1991. From 1991 to 2002, he worked at ADAS, responsible for restoring and managing restored Opencast Coal sites under a contract with the then British Coal Opencast. A resident surveyor based in Gloucestershire for DEFRA during Foot and Mouth outbreak, Charles was responsible for restoring pyre sites and settling compensation claims resulting from the disease outbreak. From 2002 to 2012, Area Land Agent for Defence Estates, managing the MoD rural estate in Wales and the West Midlands, dealing with stake holders, the Military, conservation and heritage issues.


Owning Land in his own right, he is familiar with many of the issues that commonly crop up. He has experience in managing land and estates, landlord and tenant issues, boundary disputes, land restoration and soil management, access, compensation, woodlands, commons, planning, sporting and mineral rights.
