The CLA has responded to a consultation on ‘Proposals to exempt categories of dwellings from the council tax premiums in England’. Our response primarily underscores the necessity for an extended timeframe for exceptions from council tax. We firmly advocate for property owners to be granted additional time for situations such as property sales or essential compliance work, acknowledging the reasonable need for the relief to be temporary. Our response also advocates practical adjustments to ensure a more seamless experience for members who use the council tax exceptions.
