New planning use class for short-term lets and associated permitted development rights (England)

This government consultation proposes introducing a new use class for short term lets in England.

This government consultation proposes introducing a new use class for short term lets in England. It proposes that if a new use class is introduced there should be permitted development rights to switch use from residential to short term let and vice versa. The CLA has opposed the proposals as we do not agree that a new use class will solve the issue of short term lets in tourism hot spots. We have also opposed the ability that would be given to local authorities to remove the permitted development right of switching between use classes. The CLA has simultaneously submitted a response to a consultation on a new registration scheme for short term lets in England.
