CLA President gives evidence at the Communities and Local Government Select Committee

CLA President, Harry Cotterell, gave evidence to the Communities and Local Government Select Committee on its Private Rented Sector Housing Inquiry.

During his evidence Mr Cotterell argued against mandatory landlord registration and rent controls, suggesting that they would discourage landlords from renting out their properties leading to a fall in supply.

He also advocated a series of tax reliefs which could encourage members to bring more private rented stock to the market.

The CLA will continue to engage with the Committee throughout the Inquiry and will monitor the Government’s response closely.
