CLA44 - Gas and Oil Pipelines

The gas industry is hotting up to meet the challenges of UK energy supply in the face of declining North Sea reserves. This involves not only new landings for compressed gas at major ports, but also onshore gas storage sites, and reinforcements to the National Transmission System to serve them.

The new handbook covers the issues faced by members when gas (and oil) pipelines are threatened. It explains the statutory powers available to pipeline promoters, the key issues to watch out for, and deals with the question of compensation and other payments. For the first time it deals in detail with the question of subsequent planning consents near high pressure pipelines, and provides advice on how to approach these matters. It describes the National Agreement with National Grid – which has taken over the network formerly owned by British Gas – and details the matters that need to be addressed in drafting codes of practice.
