CLA59 - Solar energy: a guide for land managers

CLA59 - Solar energy: a guide for land managers

Solar power is of real interest to both rural and urban property owners as it uses an inexhaustible natural resource to deliver energy and is supported by Government regulation in the form of the Feed-in Tariff (effective from April 2010) and the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive (which is planned to be introduced in June 2011, subject to formal confirmation).

This handbook looks at the background to solar power, considers the opportunities for landowners and rural businesses and includes an outline of the planning and engineering constraints that apply.

It discusses the economics of solar power – the set up costs and the returns.

It outlines the technology behind solar power and includes case studies of solar projects.

It also looks at the support for solar power and the tax reliefs available to solar power developers.

The appendices cover advice on solar photovoltaic leases and provide useful contacts, including large-scale solar PV suppliers and developers, and grid connection and electricity sales consultancies.
