Consultation relating to Encouraging Responsible Letting

The Government has consulted on how the existing law in relation to residential lettings might be better enforced and suggests a system of "enforced self regulation" whereby all residential landlords would have to become a member of an accreditated scheme.  This has been vigorously opposed in the CLA's response as being regulation too far.  We have argued that it is disproportionate and unnecessary and, especially in a rural context (where traditionally landlords and tenants live and work along side each other), could have a detrimental effect on the provision of affordable housing and residential letting in general.
