The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation

The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation

The Country Land & Business Association is pleased to respont to the DfT consultation on the design of the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation (RTFO).

We are confident that UK (and EU) biofuels can be delivered with at least a 50% GHG saving from the outset, and whilst we agree that reporting standards must be imposed on sellers of both imported and home produced biofuels, we argue that the UK should move in advance of international standards to demand that fuel producers must demonstrate a 50% GHG life cycle saving in order to qualify for RTFO certificates.

We further make detailed proposals in order to maintain the existing small scale recovered vegetable oil and biodiesel processing capacity, which is in danger of being lost under the current proposals, with consequent harm to the environment (increased landfill) and damage to the rural SME sector.
