Game Shoots To Sign Up To New Assurance Scheme The leading shooting and landowning organisations have come together today (Saturday 28 July) to launch the first ever independently assessed shoot assurance scheme. From today, game shoots across the UK will be able to sign up to the scheme, which aims to maintain high standards across the field. This ensures that shoots have high safety standards; their practices enhance wildlife and habitats; they abide by the law; and adhere to the Code of Good Shooting Practice.
Sustainable Food and Farming Minister Jeff Rooker said:
"In 2002, Alun Michael told The CLA Game Fair that 'the future of shooting is secure, but it's in your hands.' Four years on, I'm glad that the shooting and landowning organisations have worked hard to establish a code of practice to regulate the industry. This scheme is the next step of this self regulation that should maintain high-quality shoots across the UK."
Shoots can only be certified if they meet the appropriate standards set by the scheme. An annual inspection visit ensures that good practice is maintained.
Assurance schemes are voluntary systems which check that industries are meeting certain standards. Game Shoot Assurance will mean shoots can be certified if they meet the scheme's standards for game shooting which flow from the principles laid down in the Code of Good Shooting Practice. |
