CLA attacks Welsh Government decision not to allow badger cullThe CLA today (20 March) attacked the Welsh Government's decision not to include a badger cull in a package of measures for tackling bovine TB. The Association said it was a "big mistake" that Wales' Environment Minister John Griffiths announced today he would not be implementing a cull of badgers within the Intensive Action Area for tackling bTB in Wales, relying instead on a five-year badger vaccination programme.
CLA President Harry Cotterell said: "Bovine TB takes a terrible toll on cattle and on the businesses of livestock farmers in Wales, and we believe Mr Griffiths is wrong not to use every tool at his disposal to eradicate the disease.
"It is a big mistake he has not followed the lead of the Secretary of State Caroline Spelman who has allowed trial culls in England as part of the package of measures used to fight bTB."
